Puerto Rico Top 5 Cigar Lounges

Writer: AMCIGARSAMCIGARS

Updated: 3 days ago

Puerto Rico is a vibrant Caribbean island and an unincorporated U.S. territory known for its rich culture, stunning landscapes, and historical significance. Its capital, San Juan, is home to colorful colonial architecture, historic forts like Castillo San Felipe del Morro, and a lively atmosphere. The island has a tropical climate, making it a year-round destination for visitors drawn to its beautiful beaches, El Yunque Rainforest, and bioluminescent bays. In addition the island is home to some great cigar lounges, including cigars made in the island.

As a proud native of Puerto Rico, I’m writing this blog to share the best the island has to offer through my personal perspective. Whether you're a local or a visitor, I want to highlight the unique experiences that make Puerto Rico special. In my reviews, I take into account various factors, including the quality and selection of cigars, their country of origin, the variety of drinks available, and how each lounge reflects the island’s rich culture and atmosphere. My goal is to provide an insightful guide for those looking to enjoy the finest cigar lounges Puerto Rico has to offer.

Ratings range from 0 to 25, with 25 being the highest possible score. Our top 5 lounges in PR:

5.fDon Collins in (Old) San Juan - Overall Rating: D (16 points)

With roots dating back to 1506, it is part of the Caribbean’s oldest surviving cigar factory, preserving traditional cigar-making techniques and Puerto Rico's rich tobacco heritage.

If you're visiting Old San Juan and looking for a unique and authentic experience, Don Collins is a must-visit. This historic cigar shop and lounge offers a cozy yet inviting atmosphere, perfect for those who appreciate fine cigars. While seating is limited, those lucky enough to find a spot will enjoy a comfortable and relaxed setting.

Don Collins exclusively sells its own brand of cigars, crafted with high-quality tobacco grown in Puerto Rico. Though the selection may be limited, each cigar is known for its rich flavor and craftsmanship, making it a worthwhile stop for enthusiasts and casual smokers alike.

In addition to cigars, the shop offers a modest but well-curated selection of drinks, including rum and other spirits. As a special touch, guests receive a complimentary rum shot with every cigar purchase, adding to the warm and welcoming vibe of the establishment.

The staff at Don Collins is not only professional but also incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about their products. Whether you're a seasoned cigar aficionado or a curious newcomer, they are happy to guide you through the selections and share insights about the history and craftsmanship behind each cigar. Puerto Rico is also known for exceptional coffee. Try some here!

4. Casa de Montecristo in (Old) San Juan - Overall Rating: C (17.5 points)

Casa de Montecristo is a premier cigar lounge and bar located in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. This establishment offers a luxurious yet relaxed atmosphere where premium cigar smoking meets the art of high mixology and the finest spirits.

The lounge features a large selection of premium cigar brands and exclusive blends, catering to both seasoned aficionados and newcomers. To complement the cigar experience, Casa de Montecristo provides a wide array of fine spirits and cocktails crafted by award-winning mixologists. The interior of the venue, housed in a building over 400 years old, reflects the rich history of Old San Juan while incorporating modern design elements.

The lounge offers a well-curated selection of hard-to-find and limited-edition cigars, making it a great spot for enthusiasts looking for something unique. Interestingly, they also have boxes of Cuban cigars stored in their humidor, though these are not for sale.

However, my experience with the staff was less than ideal. When I asked to enter the humidor, they seemed somewhat reluctant, and their knowledge about certain cigars was lacking. It felt as if my questions were an inconvenience rather than an opportunity for engagement.

That said, aside from the staff experience, the lounge itself is impressive and lives up to the expectations of a La Casa de Montecristo. The ambiance is refined, the selection is top-notch, and the overall atmosphere makes it a fantastic place to relax and enjoy a premium smoke. While the prices can be on the higher side, the quality and exclusivity of the cigars justify the cost. If you're a serious aficionado, this spot is definitely worth a visit.

3. The Cigar House in (Old) San Juan - Overall Rating: C (19.5 points)

Oh The Cigar House, you either love this place or you don't. The establishment provides a comfortable and inviting atmosphere, featuring plush leather sofas and traditional rocking chairs where patrons can relax and enjoy their selections. The walls are adorned with cigar history and photos of celebrities who have visited, adding to the rich ambiance. The Cigar House offers a wide range of beers and spirits. In the island, their amount of cigars selection is second to none. Most cigars are well priced while the Opus X and other hard-to-find cigars prices have a high mark up.

I love coming here in the mornings—their lounge has a relaxed, open feel that makes me feel like I’m sitting on a cozy patio. The drink selection is fantastic, offering a variety of choices to suit any mood. If you take the time to look around, you’ll notice an impressive collection of rare and vintage A. Fuente accessories and memorabilia, which adds to the charm of the place.

Some people might have complaints about the customer service, but if you can look past that, the overall experience more than makes up for it. Once you soak in the atmosphere and quality selection, it’s easy to become a regular. I truly love this place.

And the winner is!!!

1. El Conquistador Cigar Bar (a cigar bar inside the El Conquistador Resort) in Fajardo - Overall Rating: B (20.5 points)

El Conquistador Resort is a premier oceanfront destination located in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, perched atop a 300-foot cliff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. The resort offers a variety of accommodations, including rooms, suites, and villas, each providing breathtaking ocean views. Guests can enjoy exclusive access to Palomino Island, a private 100-acre tropical paradise featuring pristine white sand beaches and crystal-clear turquoise waters. The resort also boasts an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Arthur Hills, a water park, and a marina. For dining, El Conquistador Resort offers multiple restaurants and bars, providing a range of culinary experiences to suit various tastes.

Like any reputable luxury hotel, this resort boasts the most upscale cigar lounge on the island. While many high-end cigar lounges embrace a minimalist aesthetic, this one stands out with its thoughtful details and stylish décor. It exudes a "luxury-sexy" ambiance reminiscent of The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.

Nestled within the hotel, the lounge offers seamless access to the resort’s premium amenities—you’re always just steps away from the pool, patio, bar, and the sun-soaked indulgence expected from a world-class island retreat.

This lounge is strictly for hotel guests—it's not open to the public. But that’s no surprise, as luxury and exclusivity often go hand in hand. Staying at this resort comes at a premium, with nightly rates starting at $700, excluding meals, parking, and cigars.

For a place of this caliber, the cigar selection is underwhelming. No Opus X, no Davidoff, nothing fancy. We recommend bringing your own and simply enjoying the ambiance while paying for few drinks.

Lounge: 4.5 - Very posh

Cigars Available: 2 - No high-end cigars available. Really.

Drinks Available: 5 - Very fancy menu

Staff: 4.5 - Professional but not too serious

Cool Factor: 4.5 - Hidden luxury gem

Worthy of Mention

For one reason or another, I visited or attempted to visit these locations but can’t provide a full review at this time.

Pegadizo in Fajardo - This lounge offers a fantastic atmosphere, complemented by a friendly and attentive staff who make you feel right at home. The space is comfortable and well-maintained, making it a great spot to relax and unwind. While the cigar selection is decent, there is some room for improvement, especially for those looking for a more diverse or premium range. That said, the overall experience is enjoyable, and I look forward to returning in the future to explore more of what they have to offer.

Timber and Blues in (Old) San Juan - Looks like a great place to smoke a cigar and have few drinks. They were not open during my visit. They are not easy to find in Google.

Located in Calle Del Cristo #103, Old San Juan, PR. Open from Wednesdays through Sundays according to their IG.

Habanacuba in San Juan (San Patricio) - The lounge offers a decent selection of cigars and wines, making it a great spot for enthusiasts. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the time to sit down and enjoy the experience. I’ll definitely return when I have more time.

Condado Cigar Lounge in San Juan - This one was in our list, we just didn't have the time to pass by and check it out.

612 Cigar Lounge in Arecibo - Another one that looked very promising but we did not get a chance to visit. Looks like a fine combination of cigars, food and wines.

This review was completely independent and unbiased. We were not paid or influenced by any of the lounges mentioned. At the time of our visit, the establishments were unaware that we were evaluating their services for this blog. Our goal is to provide honest and authentic insights based on our firsthand experiences, ensuring that readers get a genuine perspective.

I hope you enjoy Puerto Rico!
